  (another) New Member

Matt Ricchini, Carl Johns, Michael Heinzer, and new kid Jordan Parker outside the Mercury Lounge, NY.

True to Charlemagne form, no lineup can stay the same for more than a few months. The band gets bigger, the band gets smaller, people go to grad school, have kids, jail, etc., so it's with great pleasure that we introduce Jordan Parker who is helping out on keys and guitar. Jordan has made a lot of electronic music with if_then_else, drummed with Madison country band Brown Derby, and written classical compositions. oooooooooooooooo

We Can Build An Island out Tues Sept 11
The third Charlemagne album, We Can Build An Island, is out Tuesday September 11, 2007. In contrast to the first two, this one is more live sounding and less produced, more raw less candy, more angles less lush. Differences aside however, it showcases the pop sensibilities oft compared to The Kinks, The Vaselines, and 80's-90's Australia/New Zealand pop bands, that have long been signature Charlemagne.

Tracklist:
1. Crushes
2. Quivers On An Overpass
3. You Are My Diary
4. New Train
5. Saturn Return
6. You Dipped Your Toes In Blood
7. The First Day Of Spring
8. We're Gonna Hate All Over This Town
9. Death Brings Us Together
10. Until We Are Called Beyond
11. 8X10

We Can Build An Island was made at Tucson's Wavelab Studio where a wide variety artists such as Calexico, Robyn Hitchcock, Iron and Wine, and Animal Collective have recorded. The whole thing was tracked on 2" analog tape and mixed manually over 10 days. Instrumentation includes a lot of vintage guitars and amps, drums, 12-string, Rhodes, Hammond, Wurlitzer, violin, vibraphone, and a tone generator.

Pics from the sessions, trip the to Meat Rack, the desert, etc.

Backing Mr. Johns on this one are Matt Ricchini (drums, percussion, harmonies, guitars) and bassist Michael Heinzer (bass, 12-string), both of the Philadelphia band Soft People. These fellas also make up the current live band. And in addition to playing both gentlemen brought additional talents to the project, Matt as a producer and Michael as the cover artist.

  "New Train" Video
Charlemagne just finished a video for track 4 of We Can Build an Island, "New Train." It's by filmmaker Mike Zaleski and was made in about 6 hours at a house in West Philly. It's got a shower scene, cooking, a cat, drawing, and fake blood. Here ya go:
